The 2024 cohort of Sixth Form students celebrated the rewards of their hard work throughout their A-level studies, with over 28% of all grades awarded A*, over 62% of all grades at A*-A, and over 85% of all grades A*-B.
Every student had their own story to tell of their time at Surbiton High School, and many embraced their studies alongside leadership positions, the Duke of Edinburgh’s Award, Young Enterprise, sports commitments, including national and international representation, charitable work, and the variety of co-curricular clubs available to them.
It was evident, from the wide array of subjects students chose at university, that they were able to embrace their passions and interests within the broad curriculum and co-curricular opportunities. There was a staggering range of degrees being studied, including Acting, Architecture, Classics, Computer Science, Dentistry, Design, Design for Theatre and Live Performance, English, Geography, Graphic Design, History of Art, Human Social and Political Sciences, Interior Design, International Relations, Law, Law with German Law, Liberal Arts, Management, Medicine, Modern Languages, Musical Theatre, Natural Sciences, Neuroscience, Performance Costume, Physics, Primary Education, Product Design, Psychology, Psychology and Behavioural Science, Theology and Religion, Urban Planning, and Vet Nursing. Over 81% of these degrees were read at Russell Group Universities or Times Top Ten Universities, with other courses studied at prestigious conservatoires and art colleges.
Further congratulations went to the eleven Oxbridge students who proceeded to read a range of subjects this year. Seven headed to Cambridge University: Allegra B in Medicine; Annie M in French and Russian; Evelyn L in Classics; Farah O in Human Social and Political Science, who also followed in the footsteps of her sister; Floss T in Architecture; Izzy S in Design; Katie A V in Physical Natural Science; and Niamh D in Psychological and Behavioural Sciences. Three students headed to Oxford University: Beth H to read Theology and Religion, Teresa W in Biomedical Science, and Annabel T W in Chemistry, who deferred her place from the previous year.
Seventy-one percent of students went on to study STEAM subjects at university, of which seven pursued their passions in medicine and veterinary-related degrees. Congratulations went to Laura B, Katie C, Bella D, Nia G, Andrea I-P, Sara S, and Yifei Y. Sixteen students pursued their interests in the arts and design, and congratulations went to Anna W, Ciara L, Ella W, Erin W, Evelyn W, Fiona M, Flossie T, Francheska G, Hannah H, Holly L, Izzy S, Kate O, Katherine M, Millika D, Sophie L, and Thea H.
The school was also delighted to have students going overseas to study: Andrea I-P at the University of Navarra (Spain), Keira T, who headed to the Parsons School of Art and Design (Paris) on a scholarship, and Steffi Brewer, who studied at the University of Tulsa (USA) on a rowing scholarship.
Specific congratulations went to the sixteen students who received at least three A*s: Anna B, Allegra B, Annie M, Bethan C, Ciara L, Daisy G, Elizabeth O, Evelyn L, Kate D, Kate O, Katie A V, Maddie J, Nina H, Raaniya M, Niamh M, and Yifei Y.
Principal Rebecca Glover commented:
“I was so proud of the achievements of our students in their A-level examination results. They had been committed to their studies throughout Sixth Form and were superbly supported by our staff body, all of whom strived for academic excellence. Each student’s success reflected their own talents, interests, and personal determination; it was wonderful to see these interests pursued as they continued their academic journey.”
As I reflected on my time at Surbiton High School, I was confident the School was in an excellent position to continue to nurture future generations of talented students. The Class of 2024 will go on to achieve great success, and it has been a privilege to lead such an inspiring community.”
Our A-level Class of 2024 left with fond memories of Surbiton High, along with lifelong friendships and a love of learning. We welcomed them into the Green and Silver Club and looked forward to seeing what their bright future holds for them.
