Girls’ Prep Sport

Physical Education & Games at the Girls’ Prep

At the Girls’ Prep, we value our pupils finding joy in the holistic importance of involvement in physical activity, whether it is in enjoyable or competitive environments, whilst fostering their skill development and game sense through our broad curriculum and Co-curricular programme.

We structure our programme to enable all pupils to flourish in a range of physical contexts through our broad curriculum. The aim of our programme is to support the girls to become confident games players who demonstrate a range of interpersonal skills, have a strong sense of self, and enjoy being physically active.

House Events

We host a sporting House event each term where the girls have an opportunity to play alongside their peers from within their Houses. In the Autumn Term, the girls participate in House Netball, in the Spring Term the girls participate in the House Hockey competition, and for the first time, we are hosting a House Football competition in the Summer Term. Parents are invited to attend these events to watch their girls in action in what are always competitive events.

Achievements

School Games Mark 2020

We are delighted to announce that the Girls’ Prep and the Boys’ Prep have been awarded Gold standard for the School Games Mark for the third year running. This award is given to reward schools for their commitment to the development of competition across their school and into the community. The events have been superbly run by the Kingston School Sports Partnership, and particular praises to Sandra Blenkinsop who is chief organiser for the borough. We have enjoyed hosting numerous events at Hinchley Wood this year, and will look to continue the good work next year.

We are delighted to announce that Surbiton High School has won the TES Sports Award 2019 in recognition of our ‘Sporting Choice for All’ Programme.

For our Games sessions, the girls benefit from the outstanding facilities at Hinchley Wood Sports Ground, in addition to onsite lessons delivered in Runcie Hall. Our offsite swimming lessons are conducted at Hurst Pool.

Pupils in the Girls’ Prep begin playing competitive fixtures in Year 4, which allows the girls to develop fundamental skills in the core sports (netball and hockey) in Year 3. We participate in a range of competitions, including the Kingston Borough competitions, which encompass a wide range of sports, and opportunities to work alongside pupils from the Boys’ Prep in mixed events.

We play regular netball fixtures in the Autumn Term, and hockey fixtures in the Spring Term. We have developed our football programme, and fixtures for these take place across the whole school year.
