Welcome from the Head of Girls’ Prep

We are a happy and vibrant School where girls thrive in an environment that offers an outstanding education. Surbiton High Girls’ Prep School is a place of discovery, creativity, fun, and academic rigour. Most importantly, we instil in our girls a lifelong love of learning, while providing them with the opportunities to build self-esteem, confidence, resilience, and tenacity—all vital qualities that equip them for the future. It is not only the girls who are continually learning; our staff, too, are committed to personal development, delivering a broad and dynamic curriculum that combines traditional pedagogy with innovative methods.

We take great pride in our girls and all they achieve. We have high expectations of them in everything they do, supporting them in striving for the highest possible standards. Our expert teaching and outstanding pastoral care is tailored to meet the individual needs of each girl, ensuring they access every available opportunity. Whether their passion lies in academics, sport, drama, music, or leadership, we help each girl find her strengths and follow her unique path.

At Surbiton High Girls’ Prep, our values of compassion, respect, courage, inquisitiveness, and community are at the core of our School culture. These values guide our approach to teaching, learning, and personal development. We believe that fostering compassion helps our pupils to understand and care for others, while respect teaches them to value diversity and treat everyone with kindness and fairness. Courage empowers our girls to take risks, embrace challenges, and persevere in the face of adversity. Inquisitiveness fuels their natural curiosity and love of learning, while community reminds them of the importance of working together and supporting one another, both within the School and beyond.

These values are intricately linked to our eight Learning Powers—Focus, Resilience, Planning, Noticing, Collaboration, Independence, Curiosity, and Resourcefulness—which form the foundation of our educational philosophy. These Learning Powers are the key skills we aim to instil in our pupils to help them become independent, determined, and enthusiastic learners. By nurturing these skills across all subjects and activities, we ensure that our girls develop a love of learning and leave with a well-rounded toolkit for success, ready to embrace the challenges and opportunities of the future.

I warmly invite you to visit us and experience firsthand the welcoming atmosphere of our School community, and to meet our dedicated staff and inspiring pupils.

We strongly feel that if our pupils feel happy, safe and secure, then the rest will naturally follow: this is certainly the case at the Girls’ Prep.
