Having read Education and Sport Science at Surrey University, James then studied his PGCE at Southampton University, followed by the National Professional Qualification for Headship (NPQH) at UCL in 2022. He dedicated a decade of his career to teaching in the state sector, working in some of the lowest socio-economic areas in the country, gaining invaluable experience in helping to transform students’ lives. He has held several leadership roles throughout his career, including Head of Department, Head of Literacy, Director of Sport, and Assistant Principal, and has been an integral part of the Surbiton High School Senior Leadership Team for the past eight years.

In addition to his work in the UK, James is a founding member and chair of an educational charity in rural Uganda, which seeks to improve the life chances of the local communities it serves. His passion for charity and adventure has seen him embark on numerous challenges, including a solo cycle from London to Paris, scaling the four highest peaks in Northern Ireland, Wales, England, and Scotland in under 40 hours, and completing the Bournemouth Marathon..

A lifelong passion for sport, particularly rugby, saw James play semi-professionally, and in his youth, he was selected for the England Volleyball squad. When not in school, James enjoys spending time with his wife and their three daughters; staying active planning family adventures and taking part in charity endeavours whenever they can.
