Surbiton High Top Girls Rowing School at the National Schools Regatta

Surbiton High School rowers won two Gold, one Silver and one Bronze medal at the prestigious National Schools Regatta, the premier junior regatta, where 158 clubs and schools race over a 2000m at the 2012 Olympic course at Dorney Lake, Eton.

The event is run over three days and attracts 6000 competitors with all the best junior rowers in the country pitting themselves against each over to win a much-coveted medal.

Surbiton High School’s medals came from a variety of events, Gold in WJ14 first octuples, Bronze in WJ16 first eights, Gold in WJ14 second octuples and Silver in WJ15 second eights. Other notable finishes were 4th in WJ14 first octuples, 5th in WJ15 first eights and 2nd in WJ16 second eights. Surbiton High School is delighted to have had a total of 88 girls competing which is a testament to the success of the rowing programme.

Mr Walker, Head of Rowing said that ‘all girls who row at Surbiton High School own a part of this success and can be very proud of this achievement.’ Surbiton High took the top position for a girls’ rowing School, and came 3rd overall out of 123 rowing clubs and schools where girls row.

Rowing forms one of Surbiton High School’s Super 8 sports is a part of our Sporting Choice for All Programme. Surbiton High won the TES Independent School of the Year Sports Award in 2019
