Surbiton High School’s Science Department has seen some extraordinary success recently with pupils achieving incredible results within the realm of Physics.

The Eurekas

Ina (Y8) was the national winner in her age category (age 12) for The Eurekas competition, which is run annually by the Institute of Physics for students aged 11-16 and looks to reward creativity and originality in response to a prompt: this year the prompt was “Can physics help us solve mysteries?”. Ina produced a one-minute video in the style of a news report (where she played the host, reporter and an interviewed guest!) to answer the question “Could the Iron Man suit exist in reality?”.

Isaac Physics Senior Physics Challenge

Magdalena (Y12) was one of the top 50 entrants in the country to the Isaac Physics Senior Physics Challenge and this is the second consecutive year that someone from Surbiton High School has made it to the final 50. Her reward is a 4-day residential run by the University of Cambridge this week, involving advanced lectures on Quantum Mechanics and undergraduate lab experiences that she is currently really enjoying. She is only the second person from Surbiton High School to make it to this stage in this prestigious competition and will hopefully inspire those in the years below to follow in her footsteps.

We are hugely proud of both of our pupils and their amazing achievements – well done!
