World Book Day was a joyful celebration of books and our love of reading. The girls came to School dressed as their favourite book character, and had the opportunity to hear their teachers as storytellers. In addition to this, the winners of our Spring Term English competitions were announced. There was a plethora of fabulous entries to both our ‘Awesome Books’ competition and our ‘Six Word Story’ challenge. Thank you to everyone who entered, and a special mention to the following pupils:
Six-word stories:
KS1
Ayla: Daffodils shining bright make me happy.
Elizabeth: Love each other because someone loved you.
KS2
Hannah: Resilience, mistakes and practice make perfect.
Olivia: The world’s a canvas to paint.
Awesome Books:
KS1
Aanya – Princess and the Pea shoebox
Ciara – The Gruffalo shoebox
KS2
Florence – Murder Most Unladylike series shoebox
Amelie – The Worst Witch shoebox/video.
It was so lovely to see the range of books being read and the artistic creations that were inspired by the children’s reading.
As part of our celebration of World Book Day, the Girls’ and Boys’ Preps were pleased to take part in a Book Drive in support of the London Book Project. This incredible charity distributes good quality donated books to over 250,000 children across London and the UK each year. Books are sorted by a dedicated team of volunteers at their warehouse before being distributed to schools, refuges and refugee centres where children have very few books of their own. This year, the charity has also set up their own book shop housing some of their donated books on site, where children from local schools are given a voucher to come and spend on a book of their choice, giving them a real ‘book-buying’ experience. Thanks to the generosity of Prep parents, we were able to take over 600 books in excellent condition to be loved and appreciated by their new owners, on the next step of their journey. We look forward to continuing this partnership for many years to come.
We are so proud of this initiative supported by Prep school parents.
