The Senior Winter Concert showcased a wide variety of performances from over 90 pupils across the School. This was a fantastic opportunity for our department to present what our young musicians have been learning this term, especially since our last performance platform in 2019!
There were lively and festive performances from all our instrumental and vocal ensembles, including Surbiton Vox, who even treated us to some kazoo playing too! It was a real treat for us to welcome a live audience back into the Assembly Rooms and Mrs Newman and I were so impressed with the professionalism of the pupils, many of whom were playing in their first ‘live’ concert at SHS within an ensemble and after two years’ break.
The highlight of the whole event had to be the performances from our Concerto Competition winners of 2019 and 2020. Maia and Ella unfortunately missed their opportunity to perform with the Symphony Orchestra in their respectful years due to the postponement of the Spring Choral and Orchestral Concerts. They both gave stunning accounts of a movement from the Mozart ‘Flute Concerto’ and Haydn’s ‘Violin Concerto’ and it was truly inspirational for the next generation of performers in the orchestra who were accompanying the solo performances.
