Maths Beyond the Classroom: Building Confidence and Teamwork

Posted: 27th March 2025

Learning doesn’t just happen inside the classroom—it extends to exciting experiences outside of it too. One great opportunity for some of our Key Stage 2 pupils is the Maths Match, a friendly competition with other schools. These events are about more than solving equations; they’re about building confidence, fostering teamwork, and nurturing a love for learning. The Maths Match allows pupils to showcase their mathematical skills in a supportive environment. Competing and presenting their solutions boosts their confidence and encourages them to take on new challenges.

These events also highlight the importance of teamwork. Pupils collaborate, communicate, and support each other, learning that combining strengths leads to better results. This approach teaches valuable life skills, showing how teamwork is essential both in Maths and beyond. Participating in the Maths Match encourages pupils to push their limits and think critically. Facing difficult problems helps them develop resilience and a growth mindset, preparing them for future challenges academically and in life.

In addition, the Girls’ Prep Maths Buddies program pairs Year 6 pupils with Year 10 pupils. The older pupils act as mentors, guiding and also gaining leadership experience. This program strengthens the sense of community while helping pupils develop both their maths skills and personal growth.

These opportunities go beyond academics; they build confidence, teamwork, and problem-solving skills!
