At Surbiton High School, we believe in nurturing leadership, confidence, and a strong sense of community in our pupils. This commitment was exemplified as a Year 6 team from the Girls’ Prep joined 18 other United Learning schools at the Student Leadership Programme’s Celebration Day at St Anne’s College, Oxford.
The event provided a fantastic platform for young leaders to share their projects and experiences. Our pupils confidently presented their community social action initiative—Recycle to Read—a project that has not only fostered leadership skills but also highlighted the importance of sustainability and social responsibility. Through their dedication and teamwork, they successfully raised £50 in book tokens, thanks to the generosity of our school community.
Beyond the presentation, the day was filled with enriching experiences. The pupils participated in an interactive science workshop, where they applied problem-solving and teamwork skills to build parachutes capable of landing an egg safely from the first-floor of the St Anne’s lecture hall. They also had the opportunity to explore the historic old library, drawing inspiration from the prestigious academic setting.
These experiences are invaluable in shaping our pupils into confident, articulate, and compassionate leaders of the future. We extend our gratitude to United Learning and St Anne’s College for hosting such a meaningful event and to everyone who contributed to the success of the Recycle to Read campaign.
