Year 6 Join SPEAR’s Mission to Tackle Homelessness

Posted: 30th January 2025

On Friday 17 January, we (Year 6) had the opportunity to gain a deeper understanding of what it feels like to be homeless. We created makeshift beds out of cardboard in the Runcie Hall and slept in them with our sleeping bags, giving us a small glimpse into the challenges faced by those living on the streets.

Later that night, we met two special guests, Bruce and Andy. Bruce works with SPEAR, a charity dedicated to helping individuals move from homelessness to independence. Andy, who once lived on the streets himself, now works to assist others in escaping homelessness. Hearing Andy’s personal story was particularly powerful and made a lasting impact on everyone in Year 6.

To support SPEAR’s efforts, you can visit their website, where there is a section for reporting sightings of people on the streets. By filling in the details, you could help SPEAR connect those in need with a chance for a new home.
