A-Level Musicians Inspired by London Symphony Orchestra

Posted: 9th January 2025

Surbiton High School’s A-level Music pupils recently enjoyed another incredible outing as part of the A-level Music Concert Series. This time, they had the privilege of watching the London Symphony Orchestra perform Brahms’ Symphony No. 4 at the Barbican.

The evening began with a captivating introduction by Sir Simon Rattle, who provided insightful commentary on Brahms’ masterful use of motifs and the work’s dramatic structure. Pupils were then treated to an exceptional performance of the symphony, which forms a key part of their studies on the development of the symphony.

This unforgettable experience not only enriched pupils’ understanding of their coursework but also deepened their appreciation of live orchestral music.

We eagerly anticipate the next instalment of the A-level Music Concert Series in March, when the Vienna Tonkünstler Orchestra will take the stage.
