Surbiton High School’s Old Uniform Makes a Difference Abroad

Posted: 2nd January 2025

Two years ago, the Surbiton High School Parents’ Association faced a pressing challenge: a surplus of uniforms featuring the old logo that could not be donated within the United Kingdom and were no longer saleable within the school. Determined to avoid adding to landfill waste, the team devised a creative solution—to partner with a school abroad in need of uniforms.

Today, we are thrilled to announce that these uniforms have been successfully distributed to the Katamanso Presbyterian School, Katamanso Number 1 JHS School, and the Children of the Sunday School of Olive Tree Praise Ministry near Accra, Ghana.

The schools have expressed their heartfelt gratitude, sharing this message: “Once again, a BIG, massive thank you to everyone who helped us put a smile on a child’s face.”

This success would not have been possible without the tireless efforts of the Parents’ Association members, volunteers, and supportive parents. Over the past two years, the team explored countless avenues and locations before finally identifying this opportunity. Special thanks go to Vicky Bulger, whose dedication made it possible to transport the uniforms to Ghana.

This initiative marks the beginning of what we hope will be a lasting and meaningful relationship with these schools. Surbiton High School will continue to accept donations of old logo uniforms throughout next year to ensure the sustainability of this scheme. Additionally, the charity has provided a list of other items they can use. We encourage our community to rehome any suitable items to further support these schools.

Together, we can ensure that no child goes without a uniform, while fostering global connections and making a positive impact. Thank you to everyone who contributed to this inspiring initiative.
