Surbiton High School is immensely proud to celebrate the remarkable achievement of our alumna, Lola Anderson, who, alongside her teammates, secured a gold medal for Great Britain in the women’s quadruple sculls at the Paris 2024 Olympics.
In a stunning race, the British team, comprising Lauren Henry, Hannah Scott, Lola Anderson, and Georgina Brayshaw, executed a breathtaking finish to overtake the Netherlands in a photo finish. Trailing the Dutch crew for the majority of the race, the British quartet delivered an extraordinary sprint in the final 250 metres, clinching victory with a time of 6:16.31, just ahead of the Netherlands’ 6:16.46.
Lola Anderson’s journey to Olympic glory began at Surbiton High School, where she was inspired to pursue rowing after watching the 2012 London Olympics. Starting her rowing career in Year 8, she quickly showcased her talent and dedication, winning numerous national events and earning a place on the Great Britain junior team.
After leaving Surbiton High School, Lola continued her rowing career at Newcastle University, where she represented Great Britain as an under-23 athlete, achieving significant success in national and international competitions. Post-graduation, she returned to Surbiton as a rowing coach while balancing her training, ultimately earning her place as a full-time GB rowing athlete.
Lola Anderson’s journey from a young rower at Surbiton High School to an Olympic champion epitomises her unwavering commitment and passion for the sport. Surbiton High School’s rowing community is incredibly proud of her accomplishments and was thrilled to support her during the Paris 2024 Olympics.
