On Wednesday 1 June, Year 11 pupil Isabelle, one of our tennis scholars at Surbiton High School, competed in the Surbiton Trophy Tennis Tournament.
After a successful sporting year so far, Isabelle is on the verge of breaking into the top 100 juniors in the world. As a result, she earned a wild card into the qualifying draw at the Surbiton Trophy, a prestigious grass court event in the warmup to Wimbledon.
Isabelle had a strong start to the event, beating the world number 626 in the first round of qualifying, then the world number 1304 in the second yesterday afternoon.
In the main draw Isabelle played against Mariam, the current number 156 in the world, but unfortunately lost 3-6 2-6. Despite the outcome of the match, Isabelle has scored her first official Women’s Tennis Association (WTA) points and moved up the ranks; she is now the official number 1182 in the world. Congratulations to Isabelle!
