The connotations associated with entrepreneurship have changed significantly from merely making money. Nowadays, there is an ethical focus on how businesses can contribute to making the world, and its people, a better place.

Last week, 8BillionIdeas launched their entrepreneurship week with the boys and girls, from Year 6 to Year 1. The team from 8BillionIdeas, led by David Harkin, live-streamed into each classroom to teach them about the entrepreneurial spirit.

The week began with the Year 6 pupils from the Girls’ Prep and Boys’ Prep unlocking their innovative DNA. This spanned two days where the children learnt how to: notice problems, seek solutions, market ideas, pitch presentations, create prototypes and business plans, and present their ideas. It was a whirlwind project and the pupils enjoyed collaboration, thinking critically, and leading on innovative world changing ideas: vital skills needed for their future.

In Years 5, 4 and 3, the pupils came off timetable for a day and absorbed themselves into a world of creativity. They looked at the art of presenting, building a brand and what it means to be an entrepreneur in the 21st century. The boys and girls had a blast working in teams and thinking creatively for the day. They also learnt how to manage their time and work under pressure!

The week finished with the Year 1s and 2s enjoying half a day each learning how generate ideas, design logos and explore our global community.

Next year, the girls and boys will be ready for the challenge when the 8BillionIdeas week takes place again. Starting this programme at an early age puts the children ahead of the game in order to help them navigate the challenging landscape of tomorrow’s world, whilst having fun.
