Surbiton High School is extremely proud to be able to say that it is one of the best schools for Gymnastics in the country. The Gymnastics provision on offer here ranges from complete beginners, through to Novice, Advanced, Borough and Regional performers, leading right through to those competing Nationally and Internationally. All ages and abilities are catered for, with gymnasts having the opportunity to participate solely for fun and fitness, or to be competitive at the appropriate level.
For high-level performers we offer Sports Scholarships, which are available on application. There is also a School House facility, which caters for gymnasts wishing to study at Surbiton whilst maintaining their external training commitments.
We offer the following Co-curricular Gymnastics sessions:
- Beginner/Intermediate Girls (Years 7–11)
- Advanced Girls/Borough (Years 7–13)
- U14 Squad
- U19 Squad
For those interested in attending Gymnastics sessions, just come along to the Co-curricular Fair held at the beginning of term and sign up for a chosen session. For those sessions listed as ‘Selection Only’ and ‘By Invitation’, a trial will be held at the start of term. Please note, there is also scope for gymnasts to move classes throughout the year, in order to track their development and progress.
The competitions we take part in annually include:
- U9 and U11 Novice Competition
- Key Steps
- Borough Competition
- Milano Team
- Regional Floor and Vault Finals
- Regional Acrobatics Finals
- National Finals
We also perform at displays, including Open Mornings, Charity House events and School Fairs, and we have numerous close links with local Gymnastics Clubs.
During 2013 we had some exceptional competition results, including: winning Gold at the Borough Competition; a clean sweep of medals at the Regional Championships; all gymnasts finishing on the podium at the National Finals; and Surbiton High School being crowned National Champions in three events!
Along with these achievements, we can also boast numerous members of the Great Britain Team for both Artistic and Acrobatic Gymnastics, including Danusia Francis, who trained as a member of the Olympic Team for London 2012, along with members of 2010 “Britain’s Got Talent” winners Spelbound.
