All pupils can participate in gymnastics at Surbiton High School, from complete beginners through to those competing at the highest level. We provide the opportunity for all girls to progress according to their ability and take part competitively or purely for recreational purposes.

Gymnastics is a great way to keep fit and is proven to be a great foundation for many other sports. It improves flexibility, strength, co-ordination and spatial awareness. Participation also teaches pupils the qualities of hard work, discipline, sportsmanship and dedication.

Our Gymnastics Clubs run after School on different nights according to age/ability. Please contact Mrs Nicola Osborn (Head of Gymnastics) if you have any questions.

Description

At Surbiton Ski Club we are passionate about helping children of all ages to get involved and progress in skiing. You’ll be amazed how quickly your child will improve with a bit of focused weekly instruction from Jimmy and Dan. As skiing is a very popular sport amongst adults, these weekly sessions will also help prepare your child for your annual holiday and once they master the parallel turns you will be able to enjoy your trips away with a more competent child and ultimately they can progress through the club to join our elite skiers and by this time, will probably leave you behind on the snow!

Our objective is ‘to enable any child wishing to ski, the opportunity to do so.'

For further details please contact Sarah or Jacky Wilkey on ski@surbitonhigh.com. We are recruiting now for 2015 - 2016 season.

Tennis

At the beginning of each School year, from Year 3 upwards, we hold an assessment for those who are interested in trying out for the tennis squads. The top 4 - 6 (generally depending on level) will be selected to train as part of the squad throughout the year. Numbers are limited due to court availability during the winter and the importance of keeping the session at the correct level and maintaining the correct player to coach ratios.

Sessions for the squad players take place around School day and during PE. These sessions are designed to work in conjunction with any external tennis the girls play and not replace them in order to increase the amount of time the girls are spending on court. All girls who take part in these squad sessions will also be encouraged to play externally and work towards improving their LTA ratings by entering tournaments and match plays. We are able to monitor the progress of our squad players online to see how they are getting along in the tournaments they have entered so the squad should remain competitive (and fun!)

Squad players will also be able to alternate weeks between tennis and any other curriculum sport if they choose as we are well aware it is very early to become sport specific and playing several sports will improve all around athleticism at this stage.

Over the Summer term we increase the number of girls in each squad to give as many girls as possible who do play tennis a chance during their PE sessions. We also run some external camps which the girls will receive information about at later dates which are open to all.

If you have any questions please contact Mr Gregg Kovic, Head of Tennis.
